The Steve Kirchuk Trio consisted of Jonathan Sampson on keyboards, Oscar Olivera on drums, and Steve Kirchuk on a hybrid 7 string guitar. The custom built hybrid guitar was based on Charlie Hunter's design and has 3 bass strings and 4 guitar strings.

Live in the Studio
In March 2016 the band spend a weekend recording an EP. The idea was to capture the original material live in the studio. Unfortunately the band broke up shortly after so the album wasn't released until years later when it was re-mixed.

In 2023 a new trio project called "Hybrid Planet" was started with Tom Donohue on drums and Paul Viggiano on sax and Steve Kirchuk on a Charlie Hunter 7-string hybrid guitar. Most of the same original material is in the setlist along with covers from the Steve Kirchuk solo setlist
